Challenging Creativity

Sneak peak:
When we talk about creativity, we celebrate all that it is - new insights, new solutions, revolutionary breakthroughs.
But what is creativity? Scientists define it unanimously as something that is in the same time original and effective.
And our mind goes to new vaccines that cure previously deadly or disabling diseases, our favorite gadgets or consumer products, works of literature or art that move and enrich.
But new ways of cheating on a test are creative too (if original and effective), terrorist actions can be creative, the invention and social/cultural influence of social media are creative, communications that spread dangerous ideologies are creative.
Our intuition that creativity = better world is not true.
It can be, but it does not have to be. And knowing that can help us to be mindful.
Other intuitions about creativity are not helpful either.
That it is primarily about art and design.
That children are most creative and lose it with time (and through education).
That you have to be confident to be creative.
